Originaly, the Hermès Clochette is used to protect the Hermès lock, that comes with every handbag, of scratches. They innovated this object and created a long necklace of it. When Martin Margiela was creative director of the brand he first launched this item for the house in 1998. This Hermès long Clochette necklace is made out of Hermes Box Calf leather. It is a stiff, soft and shiny leather. When you look closely there is a fine grain in the leather. The name of the leather originates from an English shoe craftman that lived in the 1890s, Joseph Box.
